Jesus, reputed as a great healer, was in the neighbourhood, and Jairus sought him out in a last-ditch attempt to save his daughter. In his anguish he cast aside his dignity and fell at Jesus’ feet. He begged Jesus to come and heal the girl. She was at the point of death, but even now it might not be too late. Jesus responded immediately. He wasn’t merely inviting Jesus over for coffee; his little girl’s life was at stake! Try to imagine the sight of Jairus falling at the feet of Jesus and begging Him to come heal his little girl. Teacher: Pre-arrange for an adult volunteer fall at your feet and beg in Jairus’ words.

Unit 1: Lesson 6 Jairus’ daughter Jairus said to Jesus, ‘My little daughter is very, very sick and might die. Please come and make her better so that she will live. “Jesus went with Jairus. On the way, a big crowd was around him. sad because the little girl had died. [show page 60 with the flap down]. Jesus now turned to the mother, saying: "Your daughter is not dead; she is only asleep." And when the house had quieted down, Jesus, going up to where the child lay, took her by the hand and said, "Daughter, I say to you, awake and arise!" And when the girl heard these words, she immediately rose up and walked across the room.

Jesus picks up on Jairus’s term of endearment for his daughter, and when Jesus arrives at the house — after she has already died — and takes her by the hand, he says, “Little girl, I say to you, arise” (Mark ). Not just girl, but “little girl” — an expression of compassion and holy condescension.   The mourners laughed at Him, but Jesus took Jairus, Jairus’s wife, and three of His disciples with Him to the room where the little girl’s body lay. Then He took the little girl by the hand and said to her, “ Talitha, cumi,” and Mark translates: “Little girl, I say to you, arise” (Mark , NKJV).
